It does not store any personal data. Functional Functional. It was when we started getting into HD territory that things began looking grim; a p MOV video displayed severe artefacts before completely crashing the VMP Reckoning a p MOV might be pushing things, we consequently tried a p MOV, which crashed after running with artefacts and stuttering.
Basically every HD file we tried including DivX and AVI displayed severe artefacts, stuttered, skipped, froze or just crashed the whole unit.
Thinking this might be a problem with early firmware, we contacted ViewSonic, who informed us that no updates are planned. However, we were told that the maximum bit-rate the VMP30 could handle for H. Frankly this is incredibly low and makes the player unsuitable for most common HD video files. It did explain our failed tests though, as crashes generally occurred at points where the variable bit-rate went above this figure.
Additionally the Mini supports more audio and image formats than the ViewSonic and has a more polished interface, but on the other hand the VMP30 supports more standard definition video formats and offers a digital video output, so choosing between the two depends on your priorities. Founded in , Trusted Reviews exists to give our readers thorough, unbiased and independent advice on what to buy. The plug is a bit bulky, but is designed to only take up one outlet. It comes with an HDMI cable, so you don't have to go out and buy one. The Audio would not work. However, it was purchased for my living room hdtv Sony Wega and it works perfectly with that tv. Overall Review: You can't use the unit without the remote, so don't lose it. Very simple to use. When the player is turned on, click media player, then USB device, then the file or playlist you want to play.
The audio would not work, and it wouldn't let me change my screen resolution. I've trusted them for year and still do. I back up everything in PC and HD quality to save originals for backup storage. I watch all my movies in digital file format from my computer.
Takes up no room and is packed with the goods. HANDY and saves time! May need an extension cord. Not a problem, at all, but I wanted to mention it and be honest. Bought this for my parents for Christmas, along with a 1TB hard drive. They love it. I will be buying one of these for myself, and it plays formats my PS3 doesn't play. Pros: Plays everything Played 13gb movies with 5.
Cons: The menus are definitely workable but lack any options to change their layout. The video preview takes up half the screen so the titles of files have to scroll marquee style, which is irritating.
Overall Review: Would definitely buy another. I paired this with a Western Digital passport gb, powered over usb and it works flawlessly with this.
Pros: I came across this by accident searching for something completely unrelated and I'm so glad I did because it made the perfect gift which I'll explain later. It's so new though that it was difficult to find accurate info, even after calling Viewsonic's tech support! So here's the low down on it's features why I love this device.
Very simple UI with all the right options for both novice and advanced user. Has it's own OS that boots in under 4 seconds. No PC or Mac required.
